The Adelaide Hills are one of the three areas Neil works in most, along with the Barossa and Gawler. From his base in Angaston he comes down through Eden Valley and Mount Pleasant, so the northern Hills around Birdwood and Mount Torrens are the closest, and the rest of the Hills is well inside the 1.5 to 2 hours he travels.
Hills properties are different to the valley floor. Blocks are steeper and often bushy, driveways are long and winding, and a lot of them are hobby farms, horse properties, orchards or vineyards rather than town lots. That means fence lines that run up and down slopes, entrance gates set back from a narrow road, and gates a long way from the house.
Neil builds every gate for the opening it's going in, mostly in hardwood timber (spotted gum is his go-to), with steel where it suits the job. Fencing goes in with treated timber and machine-bored posts, so long runs stay straight even on uneven ground.

A pair of timber gates at the road end of a winding drive, built to the width of the opening and hung so they swing true on sloping ground.
A swing motor, keypad post and remotes running off solar, so you can open the gate from the car without running power down a long driveway.

Neil comes into the Hills from the north, through Eden Valley and Mount Pleasant. Birdwood and Mount Torrens are about 45 minutes from Angaston, Gumeracha, Lobethal and Woodside about an hour, and the southern Hills around Hahndorf, Nairne, Mount Barker and Stirling about 1 to 1.5 hours.

It can, as long as the panel gets clear sun. Short winter days and shade from tall trees are the real test, so the panel and battery need to be sized and placed for them. See how solar gate openers work.
Gate motors have a manual release so the gate can be opened by hand. Neil sets the motor up, tests it and shows you how it all works before he leaves. See gate automation.
Yes. He builds paddock gates and entrance gates to the width of the opening, single or double, along with post and rail and paddock fencing to match. See farm and rural gates.
